How can I increase the density of a B/W negative?

I had a similar problem once. I wanted the image area to "float" with no light surrounding it. But even a dense black from a negative or transparency isn't black enough. The solution was to use silver mylar tape designed for just this purpose. It will block 100% of the light to allow your image area to float in total blackness. Good luck!
